What Went Well?
Found a theme for the overall soundscape - 80s swing jazz.
Iterated and worked in passes with each of the SFX and music.
Gather feedback from our stakeholders, other disciplines, and the Leads.
Worked as a “solo” sound designer and kept up with each requested milestone and deliverable.
Learned methods of Sound Design that translate into my Level Design work and how to incorporate them together.
What Needs Improvement?
Early progress was slow as I was learning UE5’s sound systems and how to implement SFX.
“Borrowing” other blueprints in the engine to implement my SFX nodes, effectively blocking some people’s work for a moment.
Speaking up to my producers when I was blocked and couldn’t do much work during some days.
Locating sounds was tricky since a good amount of the in-house SFX archives we had were not the vibe we were going for - relied on external approved website archives for better SFXs.
What Did I Learn?
Adapted to UE5 sound system and found my way around it for our game.
How the process of creating music and implementing it into a game engine to maintain full quality and expectations.
Work in a large-scale team and collaborate with multiple disciplines.
Learn sound design and use those practices in my level design work to elevate my projects even more.
